Barcelona is the capital of the Mediterranean, an exciting and cosmopolitan city which is also famous for its Gothic, art nouveau and contemporary architecture.
There are many attractions, including the famous Sagrada Familia, the Ramblas, the Nou Camp, cable car rides with panoramic views of the city, superb museums (including the Picasso museum), extensive shopping area, a wide variety of restaurants and bars, plus a lively nightlife.
The marathon course is relatively flat and is one loop around the main streets of the city, starting and finishing at the iconic Plaza Espanya. Race Start is 8.30 am and the time limit is 6 hours. The average temperature is a mild 13C or 56F. There is traditional entertainment around the course. On Saturday don’t miss the excellent 4km Breakfast Run, starting at 9.30 am, which follows the last few kilometres of the Olympic Marathon and finishes in the 1992 Olympic Stadium. There is also an Expo on Saturday and a Pasta Party.
