Triathlon made its Olympic debut at the 2000 games, held in Sydney. Since then the sport has grown exponentially in popularity and in participation figures. Olympic, or standard distance triathlon consists of a 1500m swim, 40 km on the bike and a 10km run. The world record for completing all of that, is an astounding 1 hour, 39 minutes, 50 seconds, set by British athlete Simon Lessing in 1996.
