The European Long Distance Triathlon Championships in 2021 will take place as part of the legendary DATEV Challenge Roth on 4 July. For the first time in history, both the German and European title fights will take place at the same race, in Roth. Sports Travel International is the only official Challenge Roth Travel Partner for Ireland, the UK, and Europe, as well as being an official partner of Triathlon Ireland. Our travel and support packages are available for qualified athletes for the 2021 European Long Distance Triathlon Championships.

DETAILS
In July 2021, German and European professional Triathletes and Age Group athletes have a fantastic opportunity. They can not only win the legendary Challenge Roth, but also be crowned German or European champion on over the 3.8 km swim, 180 km cycle and 42.2 km run as they do it.

Sports Travel International are the official Challenge Roth Tour operator for Europe, including Ireland and the UK. The European Long Distance Triathlon Championships will take place next year as part of DATEV Challenge Roth on 4 July 2021. Roth was also awarded the 2021 German Championships by the German Triathlon Union. Qualified athletes, or athletes who intend to qualify, therefore have the opportunity to get their hands on guaranteed entry as well as our bespoke athlete support package, for this landmark event. This package includes accommodation, assistance with all the in-resort logistics, like airport and in-resort transfers, as well as special functions and specially produced merchandise.

The Challenge Roth entry procedure

Please read carefully, and take note of all elements of procedure.

First, you must send an initial, non-refundable and non-transferable, deposit. The deposit has been reduced to €500 ( each person travelling). Once you have sent this you will receive a confirmation email. You will then be provided with a single use race entry access code which must be used, by yourself personally, within 72 hours. You will use the Challenge Roth entry system website and you pay the race entry fee separately when you register yourself into the race. You must pay the entry in full at the time of registration. If you cancel your package at a later time, your entry will also be cancelled, as the Challenge Roth race organisers insist that the 2 go together.

Challenge Roth Fan Tour

The Challenge Roth Fan Tour will provide spectators with the following as part their tour package:
- Transport to the start of the event on race day.
- Transport to 3 key viewing locations on the bike course including Solar Berg
- Transport to 2 key viewing locations on the run course
- Exclusive access to the Challenge Roth Tours grandstand area
- Challenge Roth Fans merchandise
- Race day refreshments and snacks
In-resort transport

We will provide you (and your bike) with various transport, throughout your stay with us, to make your logistics even easier. We will collect your kit bags and bike after your race, so that you can save time and enjoy the fireworks and entertainment at the finish. Airport Transfers

Airport Transfers will be offered at 09.00, 13.00 and 17.00 from Munich Airport on Tuesday and Thursday. If your flight arrival time falls outside of these times then please make your own arrangements to meet us at your chosen hotel.

Challenge Roth event details

Challenge Roth is the original long distance Triathlon and has a long standing reputation as one of the best Triathlon events world wide. The event is huge in Germany and will be shown on German TV in 2021.

The Swim – download the swim course map here

The swim takes place in a canal which is closed especially for the race in Hilpolstein near Roth and every time a wave of swimmers starts, a canon is set off. There is a bridge overlooking the swim in the canal which is a great vantage point for spectators. The bike park and T1 area is also easily accessible for spectators.

After exiting transition 1 (see pic below) you’re on your bike for 180km. The highlight is the famous Solarberg with all the crowds lining the road. You will feel like you are climbing Alpe d’Huez!

The crowds are everywhere to cheer you on and finishing in the purpose-built arena near the event expo is a special experience. there is music and entertainment all afternoon and it keeps going until the last finisher crosses the line. Fireworks herald the end of the day.
ITINERARY
Travel Itinerary – (Provisional – based on 2020 event and subject to change)

(Arrival day 7 night itinerary) Tuesday 29 June 2021

You can either, make your own way to our hotel of your choice (in either Roth or Nuremberg), or you can give us your flight arrival times for Munich airport and we can come and collect you. You will be staying, for 7 nights, at your chosen hotel, on a bed and breakfast basis (with breakfasts included).

Munich airport arrivals

Today we will provide airport transfers from Munich Airport. These transfers are at set times throughout the day, so, depending on your flight arrival time, you may have to wait a short time for your transfer. From Munich airport, we will provide transfers at the following times: 09.00, 13.00 and finally 17.00. Please note that the times shown indicate when the transfer will LEAVE the airport, so, if you land before the time shown, but are not through baggage collection etc in time, then you may have to wait until the next one arrives.

If you are planning on arrival after the last advertised transfer, then we can offer late arrival transfers at a supplement of € per person. These late transfers have limited capacity, and will depart from Munich airport at 19.00 and 21.00. Private or group transfers can be arranged on request.

Wednesday 30 June 2021

Today will begin with a meeting in front of your hotel at 07:30. Your team leader will take you for an easy run (approx 30 minutes). This evening, the Challenge Roth Tours Team will host a Team Welcome Evening, including a buffet- style meal in Roth. Come along to meet the other team leaders and members.

(Arrival day 4/5 night itinerary) – Thursday 1 July 2021

Munich airport arrivals

Today we will provide transfers from Munich Airport. These transfers will take place at set times throughout the day, so, depending on the arrival time of your flight, you may be have a small wait for the next transfer.
- 09.00, for those who arrived late the night before, or those who are on early flights
- 13.00 departure for arrivals between 08.00 and 12.00
- 17.00 departure for arrivals between 11.00 and 16.00
Please Note: the transfers depart from the airport at the above times, so if you land before the advertised times, but are not through baggage collection etc by departure, you may have a wait before the next one.

Today’s Schedule (7 night itinerary)

At 07.30 we will meet you, in front of your hotel, and we will take you out on an easy run of approximately 20-30 mins. Our Head Tour leader Shane Smith will be available to offer a race briefing to athletes who did not make it to the welcome dinner.

From 15.00 until 16.00 you will have the opportunity to meet our team in the hotel reception. Now you can collect your bags, stickers, shirts, and hats if you haven’t done so already.

At 16.30 we will offer transport to the race expo. Here you will be able to register and check out the exhibitors and stalls at the expo. You can even enjoy some downtime at the Erdinger Hutte. Transport back to the hotel departs from the expo at 20.30.

Friday 2 July 2021 – Orientation for SWIM/RUN & BIKE COURSE (Athletes Only)

Between 07.00 and 12.30 today, we will do our swim/run and bike course orientation. Upon arrival at the swim start you will walk to the canal with the bus leader. Our former Pro Triathlete guide will be able to offer you advice for the course. After you have had your swim/run, you will be able to familiarize yourself with the transition area, after which we will head back to the bus for a bike course orientation. We should arrive back at the hotel at approximately 12:00.

From 15.00 until 16.00 in the afternoon, you have have the opportunity to collect your bags, shirts and hats, plus the stickers you will require for your bike and gear in the hotel foyer (if you have not already done so).

At 17.00 this afternoon, we will collect you and take you, by bus, to Roth for race registration (if you have not already registered). You will have another chance now to look around the expo and attend the Challenge Roth welcome dinner. The bus will return to the hotel at 20.30.

Saturday 3 July 2021 – (Registration/bike check day)

After breakfast we will collect your bike, from your hotel, at 10:30. Today we will transfer your bikes to the swim start, and bike storage area at transition 1 which is in Hilpolstein. We have arranged, with the race organisers to collect your bike, and your bike and run bags, on your behalf, after you finish racing on Sunday. This will give you the chance to relax, and soak in the celebrations, at the finish with your family and friends without having to worry about making your way over to T2 to collect the items.

At 13.00 we will leave for Hilpolstein, the bike and bike gear check-in (where your bike will already be waiting for you). We will then drive to Roth for the Race Briefing (departing from Hilpolstein at 14:30 ), which will take place at 15:00. After this we will return to your hotelsm, leaving at the end of the briefing at approximately 16:00. You must hand in your run bag only, today at Hilpolstein (T1). Your bike bag will be placed at swim exit the next morning, so be sure to bring this with you, on race day, tomorrow.

We estimate arrival back at your hotel at about 17.00, so you will be free to grab some food and get plenty of relaxation in ahead of your big day.

Sunday 4 July 2021, Challenge Roth 2021

On Race Day, a specially prepared early breakfast will be available, at the hotel, from 03.00. After you have eaten you will take the bus over to Roth for the swim start of your Challenge Roth 2020 race.

You will need to bring your bike bag with you this morning and they will need to be put in your spot at the swim exit. The buses will start leaving for Roth and head to the swim start, from 04.30, with transport for both athletes and spectators .

Spectator’s information after the swim

After the swim you will walk through Hipolstein, along the cobblestoned streets, and past the charming cafés, towards the ‘Solar Berg’. This is the most famous climb on the course and will have an atmosphere reminiscent of Dutch Corner on Le Tour de France. It is approximately a 4km round trip to walk, from swim start, to Solar ,and back to the buses. Spectator buses will be available, for transport back to Roth from Hilpolstein . The buses will leave the Swim Start area at the following times; 11:30, 12:00 and 12:30. We will meet at the drop off point on the north side of the bridge, before making our way back to Roth to watch the remainder of the marathon and finish of the race.

Athlete and Spectator Returns after Race

Your kit bags and bike will be collected by us. We will look after them for you, then transport them back to your hotels. Buses will be available to return both athletes and spectators to their hotels from 19.00. These will run every 2 hours until approximately 23.30 (20 mins after the fireworks).

Swim, Bike, and Run your heart out! Enjoy the electric atmosphere of this international and truly incredible event. The highlights will include the bike section on Solar Hill and the spectacular finish arena in Roth, so be sure to be there!

(Departure day for 4 night itinerary) – Monday 5 July 2021, Awards Ceremony

Today the Challenge Roth Tours buses will arrive at 10.00 to collect you from your hotel and take you to the awards ceremony. They will return you to your hotel for approximately 13:00. Before the award ceremony begins please meet, for a group photo, at the Erdinger Hutte. This will give you a chance to meet and thank Felix and his team who run the best event in the world!

4 night itinerary guests only, please check out of the hotel and make your way to the airport and home (alternatively you can book one of our departure airport transfers). Please give the time of your flight departure from either Nuremberg or Munich airport at the earliest opportunity.

NOTE: As this is the day after the event, and the event and post- race celebrations finish very late,we only accommodate airport transfers from Munich Airport for flights departing after 10.00 and for Nuremberg Airport flights departing after 09.00. If you wish to book an earlier flight, we advise that you book a private transfer.

Congress Hotel Mercure Nürnberg

4 star hotel

The 4* Congress Hotel Mercure Nürnberg is situated in the historic Dutzendteich Park district of Nuremberg, and, as such is on the doorstep of the wonderful Dutzendteich Park itself. It is also within close proximity of the Nürnberg exhibition centre, and many of the city’s other main sights.

The hotel offers modern and bright rooms, each of which has stylish decor and a private bathroom with toiletries. The rooms are all fully soundproofed and air conditioned, to ensure that you get the most restful night possible. Free Wi- Fi is available in all areas of the hotel and each room comes with a flat screen television and satellite channels.

The, onsite, Tangram restaurant features an outdoor terrace, and serves international food, with specialist diets catered for on request. The Black Bar & Lounge offers German beer, fine wines and small snacks, and the hotel enjoys use of an onsite coffee house.

There are spa and wellness facilities at the hotel including a fitness centre, sauna * steam, and spa and wellness centre where massage services are available. There is also a jogging path, which goes directly from the hotel property through picturesque Dutzendteich Park.

This hotel is non – smoking throughout and pets are allowed on request as are allergy free rooms. The hotel has a 24 hour front desk and luggage storage services are available.

How to Book

We require a non-refundable deposit of €500, plus any applicable entry fee (for each person), at the time of booking. At the very latest, the remaining balance for your travel package must be paid, 12 weeks before your departure, to avoid the cancellation of your trip.

Single travellers and twin to share

We welcome single travellers on our holidays and tour packages. This is a great way to meet like- minded people and make new friends. There are two options available to you, if you would like to travel as a single traveller. A single room (with single room supplement) or, if you want to avoid extra cost, then you can make use of our ‘twin to share’ option. We will pair you up with another rider (of the same sex) and you can still enjoy the event without any extra expense.

NB: Our travel insurance is only available to you only if you are a resident of Ireland and have been for the past six months prior to booking the travel insurance.
