It’s back! The legendary Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote, will take place on May 21st 2022, and will be the 30th edition of this incredible race. Established in 1992, IRONMAN Lanzarote is, a bucket list event for many triathletes, covering most of the cycling paradise that is Lanzarote. Passing through the lava fields and famous volcanoes, and racing against the elements, be it sun, wind or heat! The race begins with a swim in the Atlantic Ocean, followed by hours on the bike on the steep and unforgiving bike route, the race is rounded off with a marathon, in the heat, taking place in the town of Puerto del Carmen, where athletes will finish their day, cheered in by crowds of friends, family and fans.

In 2022 the Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote will be celebrating its 30th edition. As ever, we expect demand for places, on this incredible event, to be very high, so be sure to book your entry and travel arrangements early! The IRONMAN race will be held on Saturday May 21, but there are several events in the days prior to, and following the race, which are definitely worth checking out.

Our hotel is in Puerto del Carmen, which is the home of the entire event, therefore making it the ideal place to stay.

Club La Santa Ironman Lanzarote event Details

Although the IRONMAN race does not kick off till the Saturday, the party will start at Club la Santa IRONMAN 2021 on Friday.The transition is situated at Playa Grande, at the Fariones end, which is on the main “strip”of Puerto del Carmen. The atmosphere, in Puerto del Carmen, for the entire weekend, is electric. While the athletes are racking their bikes and preparing their transition area, the local (and international) race coverage gets underway, and there are all sorts of activities going on to keep everyone thoroughly entertained! There is a race for the youngsters, called Ironkids, which takes place on the Friday afternoon.

Our hotel is only about 2 kilometres from the start, and main hub of activity in Puerto del Carmen.

REGISTRATION INCLUDES

All the organisation required for your IRONMAN race, including , swim safety cover, swim course ,transition, road closures, traffic management, stewards, and equipment for the volunteers. As well as this, entry to the welcome dinner, entry to the awards banquet, a place at the Official Swim Practice, and all race day nutrition available from the aid stations, is also included. Finally you will get all the usual inclusions from an IRONMAN ,such as, athlete backpack, finisher T-Shirt, finisher medal, post race food in the Athlete Village and a free massage after you race.

DEFERRAL OPTION

Athletes who register on or before 1st September 2020, are entitled to defer their entry,for any reason, and rather than 2021, compete in the 2022 IRONMAN Lanzarote event free of charge. Any deferral requests, made before 45 days prior to the 2021 race will be honored. Athletes may only defer their race for one year. Athletes who elect to defer their entries forfeit any partial refund or insurance refund.

The Swim

The swim is 3.8 km and consists of a 2 lap rectangular course. Taking place just outside Puerto del Carmen, in the Atlantic Ocean, this is a unique swim, with two 1.9 km lap connected by athletes running along the beach, then diving back in for their second lap.The water temperature is expected to be around 18-19 degrees Celsius, therefore wet suits will be mandatory. The swim cut off time is 2 hours and 20 minutes after the start of the race.

The Bike

The bike course is a challenging and hilly 180 km, where participants typically have to face Lanzarote’s strong winds. The course brings you through the Fire Mountains and up to the northern part of the island. Including technical switchback turns and a steep climb up to the most northern point of the island, this course will prove a test even for the best riders, but athletes can expect to be rewarded for their efforts, with beautiful views of the neighbouring island of La Graciosa. The cut off time, for the bike section, is 11 hours and 30 minutes.

The Run

The run is a 3 lap marathon which keeps athletes close to the energy and spectators of Puerto del Carmen. The cut off time to complete Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote is 17 hours after the race start.

There are many flights into Arrecife airport every day. As flights arrive at so many different times, we will leave it up to you to organise your transfer from the airport to the hotel in Playa Blanca.. To assist you with rebuilding your bike, we will have a mechanic available at the hotel today.

May 19th 2022, – Bike Course Preview shuttle

Our IRONMAN Lanzarote Bike Course Preview shuttle will be available. Stopping at Club La Santa, for about one hour, to allow you to collect your race pack, today we will take you on a tour of the IRONMAN Lanzarote bike course. After registering we will return to Puerto del Carmen. Alternatively a shuttle service (free transfer provided by the event organisers) from Puerto del Carmen to Club La Santa is available for athlete Check-in today.

IRONKIDS Lanzarote

The IRONKIDS Lanzarote is an event for children aged 7-17 years. The race takes the form of an Aquathlon (Run -Swim – Run) and is included in the Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote Week Schedule. Traditionally, the event, takes place the day before Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote in Puerto del Carmen. Race number collection, for Ironkids, will be held at the IRONMAN Expo. This will be held at Avenida de las Playas in Puerto del Carmen, on Thursday between 17.00h and 20:00h. You will need to present an original DNI or Passport.

Single travellers and twin to share

We welcome single travellers on our holidays and tour packages. This is a great way to meet like- minded people and make new friends. There are two options available to you, if you would like to travel as a single traveller. A single room (with single room supplement) or, if you want to avoid extra cost, then you can make use of our ‘twin to share’ option. We will pair you up with another rider (of the same sex) and you can still enjoy the event without any extra expense.
