Making community our focus.
Sports Tours International 3 point plan is set to promote fitness, community engagement and tourism with a Grand Tour running series.
The returning Tour of Tameside took place in 2015 in with over 600 runners of all standards taking part in a 3 day running challenge from Friday 19th until Sunday 21st June 2015. The race saw runners clock up the distance of a marathon over the course of the weekend. Sports Tours International reintroduced a new version of the original week-long Tour which was founded by marathon legend Ron Hill MBE in 1983.
The new version of the Tour although over fewer days has been designed not only for active runners but also to develop a community engagement programme to improve the fitness of a whole borough across all age groups.
( example walking event and junior tot trail run )
The 2015 Tour of Tameside also proved to be a great showcase for Tameside which is a jewel in the greater Manchester crown that sits at the very gateway to the Peak District. Visitors from xx counties and cities and xx countries enjoyed 3 great running events and some great sights along all routes too.
Sports Tours International have increased the Tour of Tameside 2016 event into a 4 day challenge and has attracted sponsors including New Charter Hosing Group, Therapy First, Nature Valley, Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council, Tameside Radio and Tameside Reporter.
The Tour of Tameside has been branded the ‘race of friends’ by competitors due to the friendship and community spirit shown by runners, families, friends and the people of Tameside.
Sports Tours International’s CEO Chris bird comments:
